Beyond the Blurred Line: The Passionate Pursuit of Subaru Perfection
When the line between “not enough” and “a bit too much” is blurred to you it’s because you’re a car guy and neither will make you content. Why? You have a style, you have a need for a look, for a speed, for a function. No matter how immersed you get into the reality of Subaru ownership there’s just this bug. This sensation that takes over you when you hear the “BRAAAP” for the first time.. That feeling going up your back when the turbo spools after you throw on that Cobb Stage 1 Kit on your car with your buddy in the garage trying to figure out which way the maf hose goes. The giggles you get after your first pull, post-tune with the EWG mod you’ve been waiting for with your tax money. That’s when you realize that you have something more than a “want” for this, it’s when you know it’s in your blood. Stopping with that “Stage 2” just won’t suffice.
This doesn’t always happen right away though, sometimes it takes years to get that setup the way you want it. HA! Then even AFTER all those years you find out that NEW NEW just came out and you need to get that on before the next GRIDLIFE event. They cycle never really stops…. But what if you wait.
What if you wait through your warranty…
What if you then wait until the model year changes and the chassis changes…
What if you then wait until you can afford ANOTHER car to make sure you have a support vehicle…
THEN…. You start the hunt for what YOU REALLY WANT AND NEED, not just the name-brand shiny bits that everyone else gets in the initial “haste” of parts being released.
THAT TAKES PATIENCE, at times, this point of waiting is due to finances but for some it’s about results and proven, time-tested data! Waiting to see what is in the market and what is coming up. It’s about creating a slow-burning collection of totes; filled with parts and inventory sheets.
You’re reading this because of the above reasons on why that line is blurred to you. I mean, we’re all grown, we have our responsibilities so when we get into this it’s because we have that NEED. There comes a point in time where you just want to make some of those dreams a decade ago come true!
That leads us into the next little project we have going on here. A humble STI Sedan, lived life in stock form until that dream, put to paper, started its journey. This started off without a goal, just to have a fun car, being mindful of drive-ability, quickly turned into what you see today and it’s always evolving. A local member of a national car-group supported by Subaru took his time and literally put together the package that any of us would kill for. He turned around, took the package and had us implement it into his car so that the dream came to fruition without TLC.
A streetcar is meant to tear up the concrete, create smiles, giggles, little “eek” moments and overall just have fun yet the effort is no less than a track prepped car. Treat it as such and you’ll get the results you want. A good looking car can’t always function, FUNCTION>FORM is our game and the reality is that when you build a car that functions well it inevitably ends up looking phenomenal.
